Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo lead viewers back to the merry old land of Oz, in the 1st trailer for Jon M Chu’s musical adaptation of Wicked.
In the magical land of Oz, sky-green-skinned oddball Elphaba (Erivo) arrives at Shiz University, where the best and brightest witches train. Once there, Elphaba immediately clashes with the vain and popular Glinda (Grande).

As musical shenanigans run wild, Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship (and rivalry) grows as Elphaba displays magical powers at a level far beyond anyone else, soon bringing her face-to-face with the most powerful force in Oz: the Wizard.
Soon, Elphaba discovers what most viewers already know: the Wizard is powerless. And as a sinister evil lurks in the shadows of Oz, Elphaba must resist the urge to not give into her own… wickedness.
Chu, a seasoned veteran in modern Hollywood musicals, brings a similar sense of wonder to Oz. Adapted from a stage play, Erivo and Grande’s musical talent is on full display, promising a toe-tapping good time to theatre fans and newcomers alike.
Wicked will be theatrically released in the US on November 27th, 2024. The film stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande & Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and is directed by Jon M Chu. A sequel, tentatively titled Wicked: Part Two, is scheduled to release in late 2025.
