Hollywood loves Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Writer / creator of Fleabag and Killing Eve, contributing writer on No Time To Die, and I suppose the best thing you can say about her Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny appearance is that she didn’t write that movie. Either way, studios rate her, and her adaption of series based on the Tomb Raider video games was impressive enough in script form to secure a series order from Amazon.
As one of several key announcements made by Head of Amazon & MGM Studios Jennifer Salke as part of an advertiser’s upfront meeting in New York, Salke referred to the project as “epic”. Waller-Bridge said:
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Waller-Bridge is writing Tomb Raider. Amazon Studios’ former Head of Comedy Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt, most recently Head Of First-Look and Overall Deals, are also involved. There is no casting at this time.
Dmitri Johnson is producing, and Legendary is also involved as holders of some rights.
