Amazon has confirmed that the Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine-led age-gap romantic film “The Idea of You,” about a 40-year-old single mother having a whirlwind romance with a 24-year-old pop star, attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video. That makes it Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time. [Source: Variety]
Comcast
Comcast is set to launch a streaming bundle called ‘StreamSaver’ combining its Peacock service with both the Netflix and Apple TV+ services at a “vastly reduced price to anything in the market today” says Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.
More details are expected later in May. This follows in the wake of last week’s news that Warner Bros Discovery and Walt Disney are offering a similar three-service bundle of the Disney+, Hulu and Max streaming services. [Source: Reuters]
Tenzing
Apple Original Films has landed worldwide rights to the Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe-led biopic “Tenzing” which See-Saw Films is producing. Jennifer Peedom directs from a script by “Lion” scribe Luke Davies.
The film is inspired by the life of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and his summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Hiddleston plays New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary. A search is underway to cast the lead role and filming is aiming for Spring 2025. [Source: Deadline]
Streaming
A couple of major films have set VOD dates. Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers,” which is still going strong at No. 3 at the box-office, will be coming to PVOD on Friday (May 17th).
Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” will be available to stream on Max next Tuesday (May 21st). Also, “The First Omen” will hit VOD on May 28th and Hulu two days later on May 30th. “Unsung Hero” is also hitting VOD on May 28th.
The news comes as “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” “Sting,” “Sasquatch Sunset” all hit VOD today, as does “Madame Web” launching on Netflix.
Inside Out 2
Disney and Pixar have released a number of new posters for the highly anticipated sequel “Inside Out 2” which releases next month. The poster launch is timed with the news that tickets for the film are now available on sale.
