Lionsgate has announced that another “John Wick” spin-off movie is in the works, this one focusing on Donnie Yen’s Caine character from “John Wick: Chapter 4”.
Yen will reprise his role as Caine for the project which is expected to begin production in Hong Kong in 2025.
Story specifics remain under wraps but it won’t be a prequel – rather it will follow after the events of “John Wick: Chapter 4” once Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.
The news follows in the wake of Chad Stahelski, who has directed the four main “John Wick” movies and is involved in the reshoots to Len Wiseman’s “Ballerina” opening next year, has a deal in place to oversee the future of the John Wick universe.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Adam Fogelson says in a statement:
“From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an inedible mark and had fans asking for more. The John Wick universe that Chad, Basil, Erica and Keanu have built offers a tapestry of fascinating characters brought to life by the most extraordinary performers, and we’re excited to have one of the world’s biggest superstars on board to continue this journey.”
Robert Askins (“Umbrella Academy”) will pen the script but a director for the project has not yet been announced. Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce the Caine movie.
