A pair of “dueling” teasers for House Of The Dragon dropped earlier this year and wracked up huge eyeballs. It seems like Game Of Thrones is back in the public consciousness and squarely in the pop culture conversation again. Will yet another season of a television show based on his work come and go before George RR Martin finishes another book in the series? It is looking likely.
Season one of House Of The Dragon started slowly, but by the time the latter episodes rolled, it was again compulsive, addictive viewing, so anticipation for season two is sky high.
The new season arrives on time as while SAG-AFTRA were on strike in the US, the cast of this were members of the UK actors union Equity, so they could continue work. With shooting in England and Spain, they were not affected by picket lines.
Season two begins where season one left off. Adapting the author’s Fire & Blood series, it is set some 300 years before the events of the main Game Of Thrones series. It tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty, rulers of the Seven Kingdoms, and the last remaining dragon lords.
The books being adapted cover the history of Westeros from Aegon’s Conquest up to and through the regency of the boy king, Aegon III Targaryen.
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Rhys Ifans all return. Co-stars include Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Graham McTavish, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Matthew Needham, Bill Patterson, Gavin Spokes, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Savannah Steyn, and Theo Nate.
Gayle Rankin, Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, and Abubakar Salim are all new joiners this time around.
House of the Dragon season 2 lands on June 16th. A third season has already been ordered and is being written.
