Diablo 4‘s Season 4 update hopes to be a turning point for the beleaguered ARPG. Titled “Loot Reborn,” This upcoming update will fundamentally alter the game to address some of the larger fan complaints that have popped up in recent months. The early buzz has been positive, and you’ll soon have the chance to see if this update is the real deal.
Diablo 4: Season 4 is scheduled to launch on May 14 at 10 a.m. PT, 12 p.m. CT, 1 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. BST, and all other corresponding global times. This is a global update, which means that it will be available at relatively the same time for all users. That also means that the update will go live at the same time for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC Diablo 4 players. Since Diablo 4 was recently added to Game Pass, those who subscribe to that service will also be able to get in on the fun.
As is usually the case, you should expect quite a bit of congestion shortly after Diablo 4: Season 4’s launch. Things have gotten a little better in recent months, but don’t be too surprised to encounter a queue.
So why is Diablo 4: Season 4 such a big deal? Well, along with featuring the usual array of new and reset content, Season 4 will change how loot works in Diablo 4. Loot will drop less often than it previously did, but each drop will hopefully be more valuable than ever. More importantly, you will now have far greater control over the loot you receive thanks to new mechanics like Tempering and Masterworking.
The idea is to give you much more control over your individual pieces of gear and to ensure that the endgame will not quickly devolve into a constant grind for the rarest statistical drops. Hopefully, this new update will smooth the curve a bit and give you a better sense of meaningful progression in that previously brutal Level 75-100 area.
Furthermore, the Diablo 4 team has made significant changes to Diablo 4‘s classes, QoL mechanics, and major leveling/questing areas that are all designed to ensure you don’t fall into the same rut quite so quickly. Yes, we’ve heard all that before, but we’ve never seen so many fundamental aspects of the game changed quite so drastically before. The update is officially described as a “facelift,” and that does help convey the extent and intent of these changes.

Will this be the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0-style update that causes everyone to look at (and play) Diablo 4 in a different way? We’ll soon find out.
