By The second season of James Gunn’s DC comic adaptation series “Peacemaker” has added action star Frank Grillo in the role of Rick Flag, Sr. – father of Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman).
Grillo will first make his debut in the role in animated form as part of the voice cast for “Creature Commandos” on Max later this year.
That series follows a black ops team of monsters working for Amanda Waller after she forms the Suicide Squad. It kicks off Gunn’s ‘Phase One: Gods & Monsters’ plan for the new DC Universe.
In James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” film, John Cena’s Peacemaker kills Rick Flag Jr. so the meeting between the senior Rick and our silver-helmeted patriot is likely to cause immediate tension.
Gunn indicates the role will run throughout the season, as opposed to just a guest star. Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee are all returning for the show’s second season which is currently in production.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the new season and plans to direct several once he wraps filming “Superman” in the Summer.
