Ben Stiller and Colin Farrell are set to star in “All of Us Strangers” director Andrew Haigh’s true crime story “Belly of the Beast”.
Haigh will direct the film using a script he and Alexis Jolly adapted from Jerome Loving’s nonfiction book “Jack and Norman: A State-Raised Convict and the Legacy of Norman Mailer’s ‘The Executioner’s Song’”.
The film deals with the unlikely friendship between notorious literary titan Norman Mailer (Stiller) and his protege, Jack Henry Abbott (Farrell) in 1980s New York.
Under Mailer’s mentorship, Abbott is paroled after nearly a decade in prison and gains instant popularity among the literary elite.
However he struggles with life on the outside, whilst Mailer turns his back on the man after becoming jealous of Jack’s rising fame. The rebuff leads to Jack spiralling and committing an act of violence in a New York City diner just six weeks after his release.
The film will be rolled out to buyers in the South of France next week as part of the Cannes Film Market.
Stiller recently starred in David Gordon Green’s indie film “Nutcrackers” whilst Farrell can currently be seen in Apple TV+ series “Sugar,” upcoming Max series “The Penguin,” has been recently shooting Kogonada’s “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” and will film “Ballad of a Small Player” this Summer.
