He has long been fan cast, but World of Reel is reporting that according to multiple sources Austin Butler is in final talks to star in Michael Mann’s “Heat 2” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Butler would play Chris Shiherlis, the role played by Val Kilmer in the 1995 original. The project, which serves as both a prequel and sequel to the 1995 film, is rumored to begin shooting in November after Butler wraps Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing”.

Next, Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Melling are set to star in Harry Lighton’s ‘fun & filthy romance’ feature “Pillion”. Melling plays a weedy wallflower who becomes the submissive of the leader (Skarsgard) of a queer motorbike club. It’s a world of rules and mysteries, but is it any less suffocating than suburban life? Filming on “Pillion” begins this Summer in the UK.

Next, The Insneider indicates “Anyone But You” and “Top Gun: Maverick” director Glen Powell is in early talks to star in the next directorial effort from filmmaker J.J. Abrams. Plot specifics are under wraps beyond it NOT involving time travel.

Then comes news that “Bone Tomahawk” and “Brawl in Cell Block 99” director S. Craig Zahler’s new film “The Bookie & The Bruiser” will star Vince Vaughn and Adrien Brody in the lead roles. Set in 1959 New York, the pair play friends who partner up as a bookmaker and an enforcer and create an illicit gambling operation. Filming begins this Fall.

Oscar-nominated “Anatomy of a Fall” star Sandra Hüller and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe are set to co-star in Kent Jones’ “Late Fame” which will shoot this Fall in New York. Dafoe plays a poet whose work is rediscovered by a group of young artists. Hüller plays said group’s ‘wild card’.

Finally, Jack O’Connell is the latest to be confirmed to have joined the cast of Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later” alongside Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes. O’Connell will finish the currently shooting Ryan Coogler-directed period vampire film first before tackling this.
