Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch will take place within this fiscal year – meaning before the end of March 2025.
Nintendo announced its quarterly earnings on Tuesday with the company simultaneously releasing a statement on X from Furukawa addressing rumors that a new Switch debut is imminent.
In the statement, the reveal window has narrowed even further as Furukawa also confirms the next Nintendo Direct presentation in June will NOT mention the Switch successor. Instead, that presentation will focus on the current software lineup for the Switch for the latter half of 2024.
The Switch was first acknowledged in March 2015 before finally being announced October 2016 and arriving in stores March 2017. It has since become the third best-selling console of all time and Nintendo’s second best seller behind the Nintendo DS.
Reports recently have suggested the new console is aiming to launch in 2025. Like the ‘Switch’, its successor is expected to be a combination handheld/TV dock device – though some elements are expected to change such as magnetic joy-cons.
PlayStation is expected to unveil its PS5 Pro console in the coming months as well.
