Last month came news that Netflix had cancelled David Lynch’s animated feature “Snootworld” which was in development at the streamer.
Now it has also been revealed they’ve also scrapped his series “Unrecorded Night” which was also in the works. From what little was known about it, the project could’ve been an anthology series or even a “Twin Peaks” continuation.
Producer Sabrina Sutherland, best known for her work with Lynch, answered some questions today on the Twin Peaks fan forum Tulpa and says of the canned series that it was in pre-production and “close to shooting” when it got killed:
“Unrecorded Night was a non-Twin Peaks series that was going to shoot at Netflix but was cancelled when the pandemic hit. There’s always a chance we can pick it up again, but David has been enjoying his artwork and music endeavors, so we haven’t gone back to it yet.”
The quote that has stolen the attention from that Q&A session however is an unexpected update – that Lynch could continue “Twin Peaks” beyond his eighteen-episode ‘The Return’ which aired back in 2017.
Sutherland says: “I know that David has more ideas for another season, but I don’t know about Mark [Frost].”
“Twin Peaks: The Return” garnered critical acclaim with many naming it the best series of not just 2017 but the decade, some even naming it the ‘best film’ of 2017 which (along with “O.J.: Made in America”) spawn discussion about the artistic differences between film and TV series in the streaming age.
