Amazon has revealed that Fallout is massive. The launch of the new TV series, based on the wildly popular video game series, has done some seriously impressive numbers for them on Prime Video. 65 million people watched it within the first sixteen days from launch.
This makes it the second most-watched title on Amazon, behind the first episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And we all know how that ended up.
According to the information dropped by Amazon, and highlighted in The Hollywood Reporter, Fallout is the most-watched show ever on the service among adults 18-34. This must mean Rings Of Power skews older.
60% of the show’s audience comes from outside the United States, with the show having big followings in the UK, France, and Brazil. Amazon is somewhat opaque in how it arrives at its figures, as most streamers are. They have also not yet published any completion data for the series. This is key, as big drop-offs have been known to happen after big launches.
The series follows the broad plot of the video games, as the adorably wide-eyed and naive Lucy (Ella Purnell) emerges from her sheltered bunker two hundred years after the nuclear apocalypse and finds a twisted, violent, brutal world waiting for her.
Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones all co-star in the show which is available in its entirely right now on Prime.
The consensus among Outposters seems to be Fallout is a hit. Comical, violent, and bloody in equal measures without being tonally all over the place. The only minor annoyance is the overuse of music from the 1940s through to the 1960s, but that is not a deal breaker.
