A few years back, director Frank Darabont hinted that he’d retired from filmmaking… at least until the Duffer brothers came calling.
The Insneider is reporting that Darabont is confirmed to have directed two episodes of the final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” which will reportedly clock in with eight total episodes.
Darabont, who helmed such films as “The Shawshank Redemption,” “The Mist” and “The Green Mile,” is said to be helming the third and fifth episodes which are said to be titled “The Turbow Trap” and “Shock Jock”.
It has been suggested the Duffers have thrown Darabont a ‘lifeline’ here. The filmmaker hasn’t directed a movie since 2007, since then he’s mostly known for creating AMC’s “The Walking Dead” before leaving and engaging in lawsuits which saw him ultimately settling for around $200 million.
The Duffers themselves are expected to helm at least four of the eight episodes of the show’s final season including the premiere, finale, second and fourth episodes. The first episode is titled “The Crawl,” the second “The Vanishing of [SPOILER ] Wheeler” and the fourth “Sorcerer”.
Series producer and filmmaker Shawn Levy (“Deadpool & Wolverine”) will helm the sixth episode titled “Escape From Camazotz”.
The seventh and eighth episodes don’t have titles revealed as yet, but it’s not clear who is helming the seventh episodes – be it the Duffers or the previously linked Dan Trachtenberg.
The final season of “Stranger Things” is expected to air in 2025.
