I’m going to say this, Clue is a very underrated comedy. You have a great cast, great comedy, and several endings, all in one movie. I saw it again recently and it is still a lot of fun. But being a middle-aged white man, means I’m not allowed to enjoy it anymore, so a remake is coming. It will also be a TV show, rather than a movie, just to prolong the agony.
Sony and Tristar have made a deal with Hasbro for the film, and TV rights to the Clue boardgame with the Hasbro Heads of Films and TV, Gabriel Marano and Zev Foreman, saying:
“Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as ‘Clue,’. Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope, and their teams are tremendous creative collaborators and ideal partners to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.“
The 1985 version of Clue stars Tim Curry, Madeline Khan, Christopher Lloyd, Colleen Camp, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren. It’s the first time I saw Curry in a movie and he carries it brilliantly.
There has been talk of a remake for a long time. Directors like Gore Verbinski and James Bobin have all been attached at various points. Jason Bateman was going to direct and star alongside Ryan Reynolds in a version written by the Deadpool team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
Fox Entertainment was developing a TV series back in 2021, but that failed to make it off the drawing board.
