Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and previously rumored Jodie Comer have all reportedly boarded the first film in upcoming “28 Years Later” trilogy at Sony Pictures.
The project marks a reunion of celebrated filmmakers Danny Boyle and Alex Garland who are directing and writing the film respectively.
Garland will also pen the next two films and “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta will direct the second feature. The plan is to shoot at least the first two films back to back with filming to begin this Summer.
The original “28 Days Later” centered on a bicycle courier (Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to discover the world had been overrun with fast-moving zombies following the outbreak of a virus.
Whether Cillian Murphy will return to his role in the feature is not clear, but he will be executive producing. Boyle, Garland, Bernie Bellew, Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice also produce.
Story specifics remain tightly under wraps beyond the time period setting of the film’s title.
