Sony Pictures has reportedly moved up the third and final “Venom” movie by two weeks.
Originally slated for November 8th, the Tom Hardy-led “Venom: The Last Dance” is now set to make its debut on October 25th according to a new report in Variety.
The move means that the first week of November is free of any major new releases from studios in cinemas, and there’s good reason for that.
The trade puts the move down to the film trying to steer clear of the U.S. elections on November 5th with headlines of that election’s fallout, whichever way it goes, expected to dominate the conversation in the weeks following.
Marketing in such a highly political time is tricky as one NYU course chief explains it to the trade, saying that marketing plans get screwed up when people: “either legitimately or accidentally read a political bias in something. It was hard enough before people got extremely sensitive about every little thing.”
In fact, there won’t be another tentpole film released for a month after the new “Venom” debuts with the next major title being “Gladiator 2” on November 22nd and the “Wicked” & “Moana 2” double punch on Thanksgiving weekend.
