Hulu has announced plans for two “Family Guy” holiday specials to premiere on the streaming service later this year.
No word on the content of the specials as yet. The streamer is already home to new episodes the day after they air on Fox.
The news was confirmed at a panel at PaleyFestLA on Friday as the animated sitcom celebrated its 25th anniversary back in January. The panel also followed in the wake of the twenty-second season finale which aired on Wednesday.
Creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane recently discussed the show’s future, telling The Los Angeles Times he has no plans to end it anytime soon:
“At this point, I don’t see a good reason to stop. People still love it. It makes people happy and it funds some good causes. It’s a lot of extraneous cash that you can donate to Rainforest Trust and you can still go out to dinner that night.
There was a time when I thought, it’s time to wrap it up. At this point, we’ve reached escape velocity. I don’t know that there’s any reason to stop at this point unless people get sick of it. Unless the numbers show that people just are, ‘Eh, we don’t care about Family Guy anymore.’ But that hasn’t happened yet.”
Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis and Arif Zahir lend their voices to the series which premiered in January 1999 on Fox.
