Alex Garland’s political thriller “Civil War” is holding its own against young vampire film “Abigail” at the box office, the former expected to retain the crown at the box-office with $11 million for the three-day haul.
By end of Sunday, Garland’s film is expected to hit a domestic total of more than $44 million. Radio Silence’s “Abigail” meanwhile is coming in slightly below expectations with a $10 million opening weekend looking likely for the $28 million-budgeted film.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is expected to take third place with more than $9 million and reach a domestic total of $170 million.
Down in fourth is the debut of Guy Ritchie’s WW2 men on a mission film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” with an opening of around $8.8 million. The film landed an A- CinemaScore so should have some legs.
Closing out the top five is a race between the seventh weekend of Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 4,” and Crunchyroll’s new anime feature “Spy × Family Code: White” with both tracking to take $4.5 million each.
Despite the numerous films out, overall revenue for the box-office is sluggish and over 20% behind last year.
