Move over Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” opening credits and “Late Night with the Devil” using brief title cards, it seems both A24 and Netflix have also come under fire for use of potential AI-generated content tied to their films.
First up, the marketing campaign for A24’s “Civil War” sparked debate today when a recent Instagram ad campaign for the film, currently atop the box office, features new images of a number of American landmarks destroyed by the fictional civil war in the film.
Such scenes of famous destroyed landmarks aren’t in the film itself, and THR says on closer inspection the art has been revealed to be clearly machine-generated with multiple glaring errors.
A source for the trade says these images were made just for social channels and said: “The entire movie is a big WHAT IF and so we wanted to continue that thought on social – powerful imagery of iconic landmarks with that dystopian realism.”
Whilst that can be brushed off as unfortunate decision-making from a marketing department, more serious accusations are being levelled at Netflix in regards to its documentary “What Jennifer Did”.
Futurism reported earlier this week that Netflix has used what “strongly appears to be AI-generated or -manipulated images” in a recent documentary about a Canadian murder-for-hire plot involving a woman named Jennifer Pan.
The photos of her pre-arrest are reportedly never labelled as AI-generated either in the moment or in the credits, but they show “clear signs of manipulation” says A24, Netflix In Spotlight Over AI Usage appeared first on Dark Horizons.
