British acting greats Emma Thompson (“Cruella”) and Ruth Wilson (“Luther”) have been set to star in the new Apple TV+ thriller series “Down Cemetery Road”.
The project is based on the book of the same name by award-winning author Mick Herron who is best known for his Slough House book series that serve as the basis for the acclaimed Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses”.
Their success together with that series, which has been renewed through a fifth season, seems to have played a part in Apple moving forward on this. Morwenna Banks, who writes on “Slow Horses,” will serve as lead writer and executive producer here.
The story centers on Sarah Tucker (Wilson), who becomes obsessed with finding a neighbor girl who disappeared in the aftermath of a house explosion in a quiet Oxford suburb.
After enlisting the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson) in her quest, the pair find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals that people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.
Thompson, Herron, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash will executive produce and Natalie Bailey will serve as the show’s lead director.
The show’s tone is said to contain all the usual hallmarks of Herron’s style with dark humor and tense thrills, and Apple is pegging this as “an unmissable companion piece for Slow Horses”.
