Character actor Neva Howell (“Logan Lucky,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul”) has reportedly been cast as Martha Kent in James Gunn’s “Superman” at Warner Bros. Pictures reports The Wrap.
Her casting follows in the wake of yesterday’s news that Pruitt Taylor Vince will be playing Jonathan Kent in the film. The couple found the superhero when he first arrived on Earth as an infant in a Kryptonian space ship in the fields of Kansas.
The pair raise him in the town of Smallville, serving as the adopted parents and moral compass for Clark Kent (David Corenswet) as he becomes Superman.
Several actresses have portrayed the role over the years from Phyllis Thaxter in 1978’s “Superman,” Diane Lane in 2013’s “Man of Steel,” Eva Marie Saint in 2006’s “Superman Returns,” K Callan in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and Annette O’Toole in “Smallville”.
She joins a cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Wendell Pierce, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, and Anthony Carrigan. Filming is slated to continue through late Summer ahead of a July 2025 release.
