By Mark Gatiss, the actor/writer/producer who both co-created the BBC’s “Sherlock” and has a supporting role as Mycroft Holmes, says there’s still a desire for a movie to properly conclude the show.
The immensely popular show ran for four seasons of three movie-length episodes each along with a one-off special. It was last seen on screens back in 2017.
Speaking with Deadline on the green carpet at the 2024 Olivier Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Gatiss says:
“We’d like to make a film but trying to get everyone together is very difficult… you’ll have to ask Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman].”
Gatiss and Steven Moffat created the show and says whilst a film is “the natural thing to do” following the show’s conclusion, it’s not as easy as it appears:
“People think you can just wave a wand. It’s incredibly difficult to get people interested and get films made. I remember talking to Edgar Wright about Ant-Man, into which he put eight years of his life and then didn’t make it. Eight years is not short of a decade.”
Gatiss is currently writing and starring in British TV drama “Bookish” about a bookshop owner who helps police solve crimes in post-WW2 London.
