One of those ‘only on the internet’ rumors emerged the other week, suggesting that “Star Wars” alum Hayden Christensen will provide the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming third “Sonic the Hedgehog” film at Paramount Pictures.
Said rumor began in February when a title treatment clip from the film was released and featured a brief sinister laugh which was hinted at being Shadow’s voice.
Much of the reaction seemed to suggest that Christensen was providing the voice as the laugh sounded like him, but now longtime scooper and YouTuber John Campea (via Reddit) has revealed that’s not the case:
“Well… I can tell you that in Sonic 3, Hayden Christensen is NOT the voice of Shadow. Can’t say who it’s going to be, but people will be very happy.”
Shadow was glimpsed in the final moments of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” but his voice has yet to be heard. That film landed Idris Elba for the Knuckles role, so it’s expected a well-known name is taking on the Shadow role for the third entry.
We’ve yet to see actual footage from the third “Sonic” online, though footage did premiere for attendees at CinemaCon this past week.
Elba will return to the Knuckles role for the six-episode Paramount+ series “Knuckles” which launches April 26th on the streamer. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” will release in cinemas December 20th.
