Two alpha males unable to compromise? A completely made-up marketing stunt / WWE style Kayfaybe? Or simply the simmering sexual tension between two muscle Mary’s exploding into the open? Opinions varied on the so-called “feud” around Fast & Furious between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel.

The feud looked like it might have been over after Johnson turned up in the end credits scene for Fast X. Was all that Instagram nonsense parked, or staged in the first place?

With Hobbs and Shaw developing a sequel as the main franchise comes to a close, and Johnson seemingly back in the tent, it could be.

John Cena joined the Fast & Furious franchise to play Dom Toretto’s estranged brother. In a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast he was asked about the “feud” and had this to say:

“There’s certainly rumors about that. I can’t deny that. You have two very alpha, driven people. You get two, there can only be one.

You gotta remember I got dropped into a locker room where [we have] generational vets. ‘What’d your dad do?’ ‘Wrestle.’ ‘What’d your granddad do?’ ‘Wrestle.’ I’ve been in that environment; know the room and just kind of adapt to what’s going on.

I’m being invited into someone’s home, into someone’s family. And regardless of how they look physically in comparison to another human being, this is one IP that has had nine installments and it’s an action movie – that’s rarefied air. At the very least, there has to be respect for that.

I’m not trying to get the sandbox. That’s not my thing. I’m grateful for what you’ve given me, I just want to be the best firetruck I can.”

At the time Diesel had spoken about Johnson’s return, alongside another returnee in Fast X, and said:

“I’m so excited to have them back home and even more excited to see fan reactions and to see how happy it makes people.”

Fast and Furious XII will bring the main series to a close next year on April 4th. The last time we saw them, the fambly seemed in desperate trouble and may need the superpower of car to save them. Prepare for more scenes of crunching gear changes from automatic transmissions interspersed with touching group barbecues.
