Varada Sethu (“Andor,” “Jurassic World Dominion”) has officially joined the cast of the second season of the revitalised “Doctor Who” for The BBC and Disney+ service.
Previously it was reported that Sethu’s character was coming onboard to replace current companion Ruby Sunday played by Millie Gibson.
That’s now been corrected – she won’t be replacing her, instead Gibson’s Ruby is staying onboard with the pair of ladies and Ncuti Gatwa’s The Doctor set to traverse time and space.
Showrunner, writer and executive producer Russell T Davies says: “Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side — we need all three, because the stakes are higher than ever!”
Gibson made her debut as companion Ruby Sunday in the Christmas special and continues in that capacity in Gatwa’s upcoming full first season which debuts next month.
Sethu is expected to make her debut during the second season of the series as opposed to this year’s Christmas special which will see “Bridgerton” alum Nicola Coughlan as the major guest star.
The second season is currently in production and slated to debut in 2025 on Disney+ worldwide and on the BBC in the U.K.
“Doctor Who” returns to screens on May 10th.
