Last Summer’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” hinted at it, and now Paramount Pictures is making it official – the G.I. Joes and the Autobots are doing a team-up movie which is being set up at the studio.
The idea is based on a storyline from the 1980s Marvel-published comics inspired by the toyline. No filmmaker is attached yet beyond Steven Spielberg who is executive producing the film.
Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy are all returning.
The two properties have previously existed as independent franchises, with seven live-action “Transformers” and three “G.I. Joe” films to date.
The announcement took place at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this morning where the first footage from the upcoming animated feature “Transformers One” was also shown off.
The film sees Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry voicing younger versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively in a time when the pair are friends and “lowly worker bots who can’t transform”. That film hits cinemas September 13th.
