Along with a slew of announcements, Paramount Pictures unveiled first look footage for a number of films at its CinemaCon presentation this morning.
The big event was five minutes of unfinished footage from Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel which showed the far more elaborate games within the Colosseum in this outing including the floor being flooded enough to not only have boats but also sharks.
Other scenes see gladiators fighting monkeys, Paul Mescal’s Lucius Verus fighting a rhinoceros, massive battle sequences, Pedro Pascal taking on five guys at once, and some killer dialogue from Denzel Washington’s character.
Also shown was footage from “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” with Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik being decidedly more portly than before, whilst Shadow makes his debut with him and Sonic getting into a brawl high above the city. Things get bad enough Robotnik and Sonic seemingly team up.
“Smile 2” showed footage which sees “Aladdin” and “Charlie’s Angels” star Naomi Scott playing a pop star who becomes the target of the smiling demon. Along with reflecting a bigger budgeted and brighter look, the premise is upped by a character surrounded by fans, publicist and the like who already have big fake smiles on their faces.
Finally, “A Quiet Place: Day One” showed off footage conveying the much bigger scale of this film compared to the main series. Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn’s characters team up to try and get out of Manhattan before it’s too late, but the government has bombed every bridge and a second wave of the creatures is coming in.
“A Quiet Place: Day One” hits June 28th, “Smile 2” arrives October 18th, “Gladiator II” opens November 22nd and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” runs into cinemas December 20th.
