One of the most high-profile Americans of all time, O.J. Simpson, has died at 76 following a prostate cancer battle according to TMZ.
Simpson passed away Wednesday night in Las Vegas says his family, and was “surrounded by his children and grandchildren”. Simpson’s attorney subsequently confirmed his death. Simpson had been in hospice care within the past few months.
Simpson was a legend in the NFL, primarily with the Buffalo Bills, before going on to star in numerous movies and TV series, most notably his role as Nordberg in “The Naked Gun” films.
Other roles included “The Towering Inferno,” “Capricorn One,” “The Klansman,” and “Firepower”. He also was famed for his role as a Hertz spokesperson in commercials.
Simpson of course found a whole different kind of fame in the 1990s when he who stood trial for the double-murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
He was ultimately acquitted in the infamous ‘trial of the century’ which was documented in both the Oscar-winning documentary “O.J.: Made in America” and Ryan Murphy’s fictionalised narrative take “American Crime Story: the People vs. O.J. Simpson”.
