Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was on hand at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this afternoon to talk about the upcoming slate of Marvel movies to exhibitors.
A couple of reveals were made. First up, “Thunderbolts” has been retitled “Thunderbolts*” and the reason for the asterisk won’t be discussed until after the film’s release.
“The Fantastic Four” film, which sports a very 1950s/60s retro logo, will reportedly be fully filmed with IMAX theaters in mind.
The first clip from “Captain America: Brave New World” was shown and sees Harrison Ford’s President Thunderbolt Ross wanting to restart the Avengers and getting into a disagreement with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and tells him at one point: “Just do your job, you’re not Steve Rogers”.
The main event though was “Deadpool vs. Wolverine” with Feige saying: “It’s f—ing amazing. I’m allowed to say that now because it’s R rated”. The film’s director Shawn Levy was on hand and says the movie was “built for audience joy” and brought along nine minutes of “spoiler free” footage for the crowd.
The footage sees Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) now trying to live a new life as a car salesman alongside former X-Force team member Peter (Rob Delaney) before he gets a surprise birthday party.
Cut to Deadpool being chosen by the TVA to save the Sacred Timeline from a potential looming threat. One monitor shows Thor crying over Deadpool’s dead body in a scene that “happens in the distant future” according to Matthew Macfadyen’s character.
Some of the lines include Wade saying “cocaine is the only thing Kevin Feige says is off limits,” “Suck it Fox, I’m going to Disneyland,” “Friends don’t let friends leave the house looking like they play for the Los Angeles Rams” and “does this mean loads of gratuitous cameos”. The clip ends with Deadpool getting a new super suit.
Outside of the footage, Feige says there will be a popcorn bucket for the movie “designed by Deadpool”.
“Deadpool vs. Wolverine” hits July 26th 2024, “Captain America: Brave New World” opens February 14th 2025, “Thunderbolts*” releases May 5th 2025, “The Fantastic Four” arrives July 25th 2025.
