Universal Pictures has premiered the official poster and trailer for the recently announced 25th anniversary re-release of Stephen Sommers’ 1999 action-adventure film “The Mummy”.
The film follows an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with a librarian (Rachel Weisz) and her older brother (John Hannah).
They unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.
Critics were mixed on the film at release, but the film was a commercial success with a $416.4 million worldwide gross from an $80 million budget. In the years since, the film’s reputation has only improved and is now considered something of a classic (its sequels and spin-offs are not).
Kevin J. O’Connor, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, Jonathan Hyde, Omid Djalili, Erick Avari and Patricia Velásquez co-star in the movie which is coming back to cinemas on April 26th for one week only.
Tickets are available across major theaters including AMC, Regal, and Marcus Theaters/Movie Tavern.
