“Cruella” and “I, Tonya” filmmaker Craig Gillespie has begun talks to direct the live-action “Supergirl” film adaptation at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios.
The project is aiming to begin filming this Fall and will mark the first of the new DC Universe projects to film after work wraps on James Gunn’s currently shooting “Superman” film late this Summer.
“House of the Dragon” breakout Milly Alcock won the role of Supergirl and is expected appear in another DC project before making her debut in “Supergirl”.
The film will be based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” with Ana Nogueira adapting the script.
Gunn previously described the film thus: “Supergirl was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
Gunn and Peter Safran are producing whilst Chantal Nong is executive producing.
