Ridley Scott’s “Alien” is coming back to cinemas, timed with the 45th anniversary of the sci-fi/horror classic.
The official Alien Twitter account revealed the news in a posting on social media today, indicating it’s back in theaters for a limited time beginning on Friday, April 26th.
“Alien” was originally released in theaters on May 25th 1979 and starred Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto.
The story follows the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo, who, on their way home from a long voyage out to space, pick up a deadly extra-terrestrial life form that proceeds to decimate the crew.
The film’s success spawned a franchise that spans four films in the original “Alien” series along with two prequels (“Prometheus,” “Alien: Covenant”), two “Alien vs. Predator” films, and numerous video games.
The re-release comes ahead an upcoming “Alien” TV series from “Fargo” and “Legion” creator Noah Hawley, and this Summer’s Fede Alvarez-directed film “Alien: Romulus” which unfolds between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens”.
