“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne are reportedly already at work on breaking stories for the third season of the lavish fantasy series at Amazon MGM Studios.
THR reports that though a writer’s room for the third season isn’t open, as the season hasn’t officially been ordered as yet, the showrunners are already at work on the initial story outline.
This has come about early due to the pair having sealed an exclusive overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Under that three-year deal, they’ll launch their own 10:40 PM Productions company with Amazon MGM Studios holding exclusive rights on all TV projects.
According to the studio, it’s likely the third season will shoot at Shepperton Studios in the U.K. at a new production facility rather than Bray Studios in Berkshire where the first two seasons were shot.
This comes ahead of the show’s second season which wrapped production in June last year and is on track to release on the streamer later this year.
The first season, which launched in Fall 2022, was the most-watched Amazon Original in every region and debuted at #1 on Nielsen’s streaming chart.
