Whilst Netflix’s live-action take on “Cowboy Bebop” was a disaster, and its live-action “One Piece” was widely praised and popular, reaction to its live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series launched last week has been mixed.

The series scored a 59%, approval from critics and a 76% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – not as bad as the 45%/60% rating for “Cowboy Bebop,” but a long way from the 85%/95% for “One Piece”.

Even so, the show has drawn eyeballs. According to the streamer, the series pulled in 21.2 million views and 153.4 million hours viewed in its opening weekend – making the Top 10 in 92 countries.

It easily came on top in Netflix’s TV rankings for the week – the next nearest being “One Day” at 7.5 million – but did get beaten overall by the Swedish disaster thriller film “The Abyss” pulled in 22.3 million views.

‘Airbender’ had an even bigger launch than “One Piece”, which got 140.1 million hours from 18.5 million viewers in the same time frame. Whether it’ll have the legs that “One Piece” had remains to be seen.

That show scored a second-season renewal order two weeks after it was released; there is no word as yet regarding whether “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will be so lucky.
