Two sci-fi TV alums passed away today. First, British-born Canadian actor Chris Gauthier, best known for his roles on “Eureka” and “Once Upon a Time,” has died following an unspecified short illness. He was 48.

Gauthier is best known for his role as Café Diem owner Vincent on Syfy’s “Eureka” and as Smee in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”. He was a regular in Canada-shot productions with guest roles in a ton of shows from the 1990s onwards including “Smallville,” “Supernatural,” “Stargate SG-1,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Harper’s Island,” “Dead Like Me,” “Dark Angel,” “The L Word,” “iZombie,” “Sanctuary,” “Reaper,” “Earthsea,” “Kyle XY,” “Continuum,” “Psych,” “When Calls the Heart,” “Joe Pickett” and “Charmed”.

He was also in films like “Freddy vs. Jason,” “Watchmen,” “Agent Cody Banks,” “Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed,” “Are We Done Yet?,” “The Butterfly Effect 2,” and “Monster Trucks”.

Also passing was Kenneth Mitchell who died from ALS complications on Saturday at the age of 49. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2018 and had been using a wheelchair since 2019.

He was known for his multiple roles on “Star Trek: Discovery” as Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio. He also voiced several characters in an episode of “Star Trek: Lower Decks”.

On film he played Carol Danvers’ father in “Captain Marvel” and an Olympic hopeful in “Miracle”. He’s also a TV alum with a long list of credits including shows like “Jericho,” “Ghost Whisperer” and “Switched at Birth”.
