Lucasfilm’s upcoming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” movie just scored big time with the help of the U.S. tax office.
Deadline reports that the California Film Commission has offered the production a stunning $21.755 million in conditional tax credits to ensure the production shoots in the Golden State.
It marks one of the biggest allocations in the history of the CFC’s program – not as much as “Bumblebee” ($22.4M) but more than “Captain Marvel” ($20.8M).
It’s also the first time a “Star Wars” film has been shot in California – even as multiple Disney+ series set in that universe are filmed there.
The Jon Favreau-directed film is estimated to be hiring 500 crew members, 54 cast members, and 3500 background players for at least a three month shoot in Cali in 2024.
In terms of spending, the film is expected to generate a record-breaking $166.4 million in “qualified expenditures and below-the-line wages”.
Other films to qualify in the most recent round of awarded California conditional tax incentives include the Chris Pratt-led “Mercy” and the sequel to the Ben Affleck-led thriller “The Accountant”.
