Amazon is set to bring the back half of the second season of animated superhero series “Invincible” to its Prime Video service on March 14th.
Ahead of that, the original comic’s creator, Robert Kirkman, offered an update on the separate and standalone live-action film adaptation being in development. Like the animated series, the film will follow a teenager who begins to develop superpowers and trains under the guidance of his father, Omni-Man.
Kirkman tells IGN that the live-action film adaptation is “going through the pipeline slowly” and they’re only getting back into it” post-strike today. He adds they’re also deliberately taking their time with it:
“It’s not something that we’re rushing, it’s something that we definitely want to get right.
Now that the show is out and the animated series is doing [well] we’re trying to figure out ways to make sure that it stands apart, [and] works in tandem with the show. To show how cool Invincible is and doesn’t detract from it in any way.
So there’s a lot of maneuvering that has to go into that and so it is taking a little bit of time.”
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were previously attached to write and direct the film but it’s unclear if they’re still involved. Kirkman also shot down talk of any Spider-Man crossover in either project, saying: “I wouldn’t count on it. And that’s not a tease”.
