Ian McShane has revealed that the upcoming “Ballerina” spin-off from the “John Wick” franchise is undergoing more extensive new filming than first thought.
The other day came the news that the project had been pushed back a full year to mid-2025 and that additional photography was being done with main “John Wick” film director Chad Stahelski coming onboard to handle them.
Len Wiseman, who directed the main shoot of the project in late 2022 through to early 2023, is said to be on hand for the reshoots alongside Stahelski.
Appearing on BBC’s The One Show this week, he was asked about the restart of production and inferred that this isn’t reshoots but major new photography:
“We’re going to Budapest. It’s not reshoots, it’s new shoots… obviously, they’ve got to protect the franchise. About a year ago we did the movie. They looked at it and Chad [Stahelski] has come in … and they want to make it better because you have to protect the franchise.”
Just how much additional photography is being done is unclear, though it’s likely Stahelski is getting compensated very well to put his other projects like the “Highlander” reboot on hold in order to salvage the project.
McShane also once again spoke about his distaste for “The Continental” prequel series during his appearance, commenting on how the core creative people involved in the franchise were not involved in any capacity and it was a studio-driven thing.
