“True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto is back in the news again for his inferred dissing of “True Detective: Night Country,” the fourth season of the series he created and the first season of which he wasn’t involved in beyond a contractual executive producer credit

Pizzolatto made headlines a few weeks back for distancing himself from the new season, responding to a fan complaint about the new run, saying: “I certainly did not have any input on this story or anything else. Can’t blame me.”

With the show’s finale airing on Sunday night, Pizzolatto generated significant backlash yesterday after reposting other’s criticisms of the finale on his Instagram story with complaints of the season being a “hot mess” and that showrunner Issa Lopez had “butchered” his original writing.

The backlash against Pizzolatto was so fierce it caught the eye of wrestler-turned-actor Kali Reis who co-starred in the series with Jodie Foster.

About Pizzolatto’s decision to empower negative reactions to the finale, Reis writes on X: “That’s a damn shame, but hey I guess ‘if you don’t have anything good to share, s— on others’ is the new wave lol.”

Lopez, a few weeks back, responded to Pizzolatto’s initial criticisms with class and manners, saying: “whatever his reactions are, he’s entitled to them. That’s his prerogative.”

‘Night Country’ scored the best reviews of the franchise since the universally acclaimed first season, with critics far more enamoured with it than Pizzolatto’s less well-regarded second and third seasons.
