David Katzenberg has reportedly come onboard to direct “Sam and Victor’s Day Off,” the planned spin-off of John Hughes’ iconic 1986 comedy “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” reports The InSneider.

Paramount Pictures and Counterbalance Entertainment are developing the project which follows the two valets who took Cameron’s father’s cherry red Ferrari on a joy ride through Chicago and had their own adventure on that fateful day back in 1986.

Richard Edson and Larry ‘Flash’ Jenkins played the characters in the original film. Katzenberg will make his feature directorial debut on the project after a long career as a TV director on shows like “Ballers,” “Riverdale” and “The Goldbergs”.

No word on casting yet as the studio is reportedly hiring new writers for the project which is being planned as a theatrical release as opposed to a streaming premiere on the Paramount+ service.

“Key & Peele” producer Paul Young and the “Cobra Kai” team of Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are set as producers.
