Awards season is now well and truly underway, and a key bellwether event for the Oscars was held last night in London – The BAFTA Film Awards. These were held at the Royal Festival Hall, and are the British equivalent of the Oscars, with the awards coming from the British Academy For Film And Television.

Oppenheimer swept the board.

It took best film, best director, best actor (Cillian Murphy), best-supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), best cinematography, best editing, and best score for a total of seven. It is Nolan’s first ever BAFTA win, despite having been previously nominated for eight awards.

Emily Stone won best actress for Poor Things. That project snared best costumes, best make-up, best VFX, and best production design.

Zone of Interest won best international film, best British film, and best sound. Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress for The Holdovers, with Mia McKenna-Bruce winning the Rising Star Award.

Hotly tipped Killers of the Flower Moon and Maestro left the evening empty-handed. The show was hosted by David Tennant.
