Last year Netflix saw massive success with its live-action adaptation of the manga and anime “One Piece,” a series that got right what their live-action “Cowboy Bebop” got wrong two years earlier.
Now they’re having another go with a live-action take on the animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” a property that was previously adapted to live-action by filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan to disastrous results.
The verdict is still out on the ‘Airbender’ live-action take, but two of the “One Piece” cast showed up at the new show’s Hollywood red carpet premiere this past week – Inaki Godoy and Jacob Romero who play Monkey D. Luffy and Usopp respectively.
Speaking on the red carpet, both actors were quiet about the start of production for the second season which is expected to begin filming in South Africa soon.
Romero confirmed tp Deadline “we’re headed to the Grand Line” in the second season which boasts “bigger creatures and more friends”. Whilst Jamie Lee Curtis has long been fancast as Dr. Kureha in the series, Godoy and Romero were asked who would be their dream guest star for the show.
The pair responded with Danny DeVito very enthusiastically, Romero saying they’d loved to put him in the show in some capacity. The show is hoping to recreate the popularity of the first season which racked up 57.8 million global views on the service in its first four weeks.
