A new report in British tabloid The Daily Mail earlier this week indicated that beloved period drama “Downton Abbey” could be returning.
The outlet said a revival series has reportedly started filming as of a few weeks ago and could hit screens as early as the end of this year. Their sources say the project is “very secret” with those on-set made to sign strict non-disclosure agreements.
Since that report however, Radio Times did a follow-up saying “there are no immediate plans for new episodes of Downton Abbey”.
Series creator Julian Fellowes has previously said in a TalkRadio interview (via The Sun) that he has said goodbye to the series so many times now so he’s no longer making permanent statements whether it’s gone for good.
He adds: “It just gives me a lot of pleasure that so many people enjoyed it, so to feel that you created a show that cheers people up and they had a good time with it, I love that.”
The series ran for six seasons between 2010-2015, and returned for two films in 2019 and 2022.
