With ten new episodes added to Disney+ last month it comes as little surprise that acclaimed Australian animated series “Bluey” has topped the just released Nielsen streaming chart for the period.
“Bluey” racked up 1.502 billion minutes viewed for the week of January 15th-21st, easily topping the list of Nielsen’s top ten streaming programs for that week (Nielsen’s charts for a week come in around a month after the actual airing week).
It’s also a bigger total than the last time new episodes were added to the service. Nielsen says more than half that viewing was for the ten new episodes alone.
The new run brings the U.S. episodes now up to date with Australia, these episodes originally airing in Oz back in May last year. One notable exception is the second season episode “Dad Baby” which remains banned in the United States as it shows Bandit (the dad) simulating what it’s like to give birth.
Multiple episodes also remain censored on the Disney+ service for inclusion of elements like farting, vomiting and ‘unicorn’ poop.
The series will close out its third season, which has been airing on and off since 2021, with an extended 28-minute episode titled “The Sign” this year.
The week has proven to be one of the busiest periods for streaming in a long time with seven titles passing the billion-minute threshold – the first time that’s ever happened for its weekly Top 10 reports.
Also making it across the billion-minute threshold were “Reacher,” “Young Sheldon,” “American Nightmare,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Fool Me Once” and the Kevin Hart-led film “Lift”.
