Hot on the heels of their success with “Leave the World Behind,” actress Julia Roberts and “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail are re-teaming for “Panic Carefully” reports The Insneider.
The film package is being shopped around with a bidding war currently on for the title as several studios are interested – including streamer Netflix where ‘World’ premiered late last year.
Other studios though, like Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, are reportedly offering theatrical releases for the title.
It sounds similar to the situation Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal faced with “Road House” – they could go with a streaming-only release and more money upfront, or go for a theatrical release with less upfront but potentially more on the backend should it be a success.
“Leave the World Behind” was a big hit for Netflix, pulling in 41.7 million views in its first three days of release from December 8th whilst reviews were quite good.
Esmail previously worked with Roberts on the acclaimed first season of “Homecoming” on Amazon Prime Video. Esmail was also executive producer on Peacock’s “Angelyne” and “The Resort”
