Rival streaming services Paramount+ and Peacock are reportedly considering joining forces.

The Wall Street Journal broke the news that Paramount Global and Comcast recently held early talks about the possibility of uniting the services as some kind of joint venture.

However, the talks have been just that – early ideas and nothing close to formal negotiations, let alone a solid deal. The two companies already partner up in parts of Europe with the joint streamer SkyShowtime for markets not served by Peacock or Paramount+.

This also follows on from all the potential buyout, acquisition and merger talk surrounding Paramount Global. Comcast has previously been mentioned as an ideal ‘buyer’ but Comcast CEO Brian Roberts indicated last month they have no near future plans for large M&A deals.

At the end of last year, the still mostly U.S.-based Peacock had 31 million subscribers at the end of 2023, whilst Paramount+ reached more than 63 million globally as of September last year.
