Announced by the trades just prior to the film’s world premiere, it has been revealed that “Furiosa” and “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy will be seen on screen in Dennis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two”.
Rumors of her involvement began a few days ago when a Letterboxd update featured her name in the credits. That was quickly removed, but screenshots circulated.
Now, pre-empting any reviews that might try and break the news, Variety reports that Taylor-Joy made a surprise appearance posing alongside cast members Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Austin Butler on the red carpet in London. They confirm she has a role in the sequel.
Whilst the trade doesn’t go into specifics of what that role is, it can easily be deduced by readers of the book who she will play, and it’s said should “Dune Messiah” happen then her role will be expanded to a major one. The big question, however, is how the role will be portrayed on screen in the new film, and that is being kept closely guarded.
She joins Butler, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, Christopher Walken and Tim Blake Nelson, who are all new in the second film. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård and Charlotte Rampling all return from the first.
“Dune: Part Two” opens in cinemas on March 1st. Taylor-Joy, coming off films like “The Menu” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” will be seen later this year in George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” opening May 24th.
