Filming has officially wrapped on the second season of “Andor” ahead of a premiere expected in early 2025.
As we know, the series will lead right up to the start of “Rogue One” and so it’s expected more elements from that film will be incorporated into the show’s second season.
We already saw Forest Whitaker’s Saw Guerra in the first season. Thus, speculation has been high that we’ll see others like Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic. Mendelsohn is open to such appearances, having done a voice cameo in the animated “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”.
However out doing press for the new Apple series “The New Look,” the Australian actor seems to have nixed any chance of a new live-action Krennic appearance in “Andor,” telling Italian outlet Bad Taste (via The Playlist) this week:
“As for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no, I have not been approached for something like this. And yes, it would be great to see him again somewhere, but for now, everything stops here.
But as far as I’m concerned, I would be very willing to explore it further and significantly in that world. I never expected to play a character like that, but then again, I never expected to become an actor, either. For me, they are all wonderful things.
I think Krennic has a tremendous amount of things left to give to the audience. What you need to understand about a character like Krennic is that, if he had the chance, he would have tried to take over the entire game, and it seems to me that this aspect has not yet been explored sufficiently.”
Staying within the Mouse House, Mendelsohn says there’s one key role he’d love to play – one of the biggest villains in all of superhero fandom. Speaking to GQ, he says though he’s already had a role in the MCU as the Skrull Talos, the role he really wants to play is Doctor Doom:
“I would almost give my eyes and teeth to play Doctor Doom. I think Doctor Doom is the great unread Marvel character that could and should be done. But it is what it is. I got to work with Spielberg, and I got to work with Terrence Malick, and I got to work with Ridley Scott. It’s been incredible. I didn’t think this ship was coming.”
Funnily enough Mads Mikkelsen, his “Rogue One” co-star WHO also played another character in the MCU, has emerged as something of a fan favorite to be cast in the role.
