The first of multiple new Super Bowl ‘Big Game’ TV spots has dropped, with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s “Despicable Me 4” dropping a 30-second commercial.
This one isn’t a cut down version of the original trailer from the other week, rather it makes fun of AI-generated images with the help of the Minions.
The film sees Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their girls – Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) – welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad.
Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.
Also voicing characters are Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman whilst Pierre Coffin returns as the Minions and Steve Coogan is back as Silas Ramsbottom.
This marks the first return to the main “Despicable Me” franchise in seven years and follows in the wake of 2022’s “Minions: The Rise of Gru” which earned almost $1 billion worldwide.
Oscar nominee Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage direct the film which is produced by Chris Meledandri and Brett Hoffman. Ken Daurio and Emmy-winning “The White Lotus” creator Mike White penned the script.
