Almost a year ago came word that Netflix was looking into a potential U.S. remake of its Korean megahit series “Squid Game”.
Jeff Sneider broke the news at the time, also reporting a few weeks later that the streamer desperately wanted filmmaker David Fincher to tackle the project.
He reportedly indicated Fincher agreed to helm the project, and a Production Weekly listing seemingly cited Fincher as a producer on said remake (but no listing for director).
This week, World of Reel spoke with Sneider and asked if there was any update to which Sneider reportedly said Fincher is still “quietly working” on the project and added that “it’s most likely going to happen”.
To date there has been no mention of the remake in the trades, and no-one appears to have asked him about it whilst Fincher was out promoting “The Killer” this past Fall.
Fincher was also linked to a remake of Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” with Ben Affleck a few years back, though that project has been shelved.
The original “Squid Game” meanwhile has a second season on the way and due out later this year.
